Connecting Native Circles
The wisdom and wellness conference will be opened by Vincent Craig (Navajo), the Court Administrator for the White Mountain Apache Tribe and Mariddie J. Craig, a White Mountain Apache Tribal Council Member, in District IV.
The event is being held June 5th through the 7th at the Hon-Dah Resort & Casino in Pinetop, Arizona.
Dennis Alley, founder of the "Indian Wisdom Dancers" will open the conference with Honor Songs. "Restored Spirits", a Native American multi-cultural Therapeutic Theater Troupe will also be performing.
Men and women's sweat ceremonies will be available.
The conference will be followed by the "Pow-Wow in the Pines" on June 8 and 9th.
The conference offers workshops to strengthen the spirit and create harmonious relationships in families, communities and in the workplace. The classes focus on personal and professional development, personal wellness, spirituality, and strengthening communication and leadership skills. An entrepreneur panel will discuss "How to Start Your Own Business on the Rez".
Prominent teachers, artists and business leaders from Native communities in Arizona will lead more than 25 workshops. A few of the workshop presenters are:
Dennis L. Alley (Otoe/Omaha/Missouria) a Native American storyteller, speaker, singer and entertainer.
Waunta Lonewolf, a television and radio personality, and a published author on Native American culture and spiritual lifestyles.
April Lynn Mafi (Apache/Mayan), a Latin aerobic and dance movement instructor, head choreographer and performer with the group Restored Spirits, and the former Miss Indian Phoenix and Missy Apache.
Wendy L. McCord, Ph.D., MFT, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Child Psychologist.
Dr. Claralynn Merino (Apache), a Transpersonal Psychologist in Native American Art and Science, screenwriter, composer of plays and stage productions, and a teacher of Apache Healing Arts and Native American Sign Language.
Francisco L. Merino (Apache/Mayan), an artist, children's book illustrator, native flutist, cultural choreographer and performer with the group "Restored Spirits".
Mario L. West (Apache/Pueblo), owner of the Internet business West International, a poet, actor and performer of the traditional Pueblo Eagle Dance.
